We left Alabama yesterday morning under a cloud of heavy fog, which very weirdly lifted as soon as we crossed the border into Mississippi! We passed loads of cotton fields that looked awesome against the moody skies.

Clik here to view.We drove through Mississippi and came out the other side and into Tennessee. Once we arrived in Memphis, we checked into our beautiful hotel, the River Inn at Harbor Town. Check out the view of the Mississippi from our room! Amazing! The bed was like a cloud. I could have stayed there forever.

Clik here to view. Then we went out for lots of eating, as usual. First stop was Payne’s BBQ. A simple place that used to be a gas station. Take a look at this pulled pork sandwich with slaw.

Clik here to view.Next stop was Gus’s fried chicken. I was really excited about this and it smelt amazing when we were stood outside. Nick forgot to mention that it was famous for being ‘hot & spicy’ which means that I couldn’t eat any. We knew it would be good because it was absolutely buzzing inside.

Given that I couldn’t eat the fried chicken and I hadn’t eaten a bite at Payne’s, we headed to Dyer’s Burgers so that I could have some food. It’s on the main tourist strip of Beale Street but has been around forever. To be honest, I wasn’t a fan. I’ve had some excellent burgers in America (Gotts in San Francisco being one of them) and this just didn’t make the cut.

Finally, we headed to Hog & Hominy. It’s in East Memphis and has only been open for 10 weeks. It was so cool, I absolutely loved it. They’ve even got a bocce court outside and we got to watch the San Francisco Giants play baseball on TV while we ate. Perfect. We ordered a pizza to share and it was delicious. The staff were so lovely, I think we had a good long chat with nearly every single person that worked there and they were all so pumped and enthusiastic about food, it was really great.

Clik here to view.I did try and do an outfit post yesterday in front of the Mississippi and it was far too windy and the results were awful. These are the worst of a very bad bunch.

Clik here to view.Today we had a lie-in! Bliss! And I had a real breakfast of bacon and eggs! My first breakfast in 10 days that didn’t consist of crisps, chocolate or BBQ! Then we headed straight to Cozy Corner for a BBQ brunch where Nick ordered a cornish hen and BBQ spaghetti. We had a good old chat with the owner, Desiree, who was just indescribably amazing. She said she loves coming to work everyday and that it makes her really happy because she gets to be with her family. There’s 4 generations working there and her 5 year old great-granddaughter is picking it up quickly, ready to join the team! She told us that her granddaughter makes the best banana pudding so obviously we had to try some. It doesn’t look like much in the picture but it was immense. Creamy and cakey and beautiful. I could’ve eaten 10 of them. It was easily my favourite BBQ place so far. The atmosphere and the music rocked too.

Clik here to view. After stopping at Gibson’s for a couple of doughnuts, we went to visit the home of Elvis Presley, Graceland. It was really cool. His house is lovely and the 70′s decor is the best. Seeing all his gold records and awards all in one place was jaw-dropping. I’m not really a huge Elvis fan but it was definitely worth it. I loved checking out his private plane, the Lisa Marie.

When we’d finished at Graceland, we checked into our new hotel, the Hilton Double Tree in Downtown Memphis. We were handed fresh, warm cookies when we checked in. What more could you want? Our room looks straight out onto the baseball stadium too.

Clik here to view.We went to Rendezvous for dinner but I wasn’t impressed. It’s a bit of a tourist trap and far too busy for my liking. But, the BBQ nachos were pretty damn good.
